This equipment is designed to provide automated  manufacturing of automotive door and window moldings and seals.

Equipment Overview

The Preformer with Pullbase form the carrier metal that is inside the extrusion.
For more complicated shapes you would use more than the typical 5 stations.
The Dual Pullbase dual cassette is an example of a 9 station Preformer.  It can run wire carrier, lanced and streched, stamped metal or solid metal with line speed of up to 80 feet per minute. Extruder controls line speed with dancer arm.
It is very fast to change Preformer cassettes out to get more run time from your line. SMED (single minute exchange of dies) and the previous settings are kept from last time job was ran.

Process Description

Automotive Weatherstripping (Door Seals) have many names: Primary Door, Secondary Door, Body Panel, Decklid, Wheelhouse, Rocker , Split line , Door to Fender, Door to Door, Glass Run Channel, Window Outside Waist Belt (Outer Belt), Window Inside Waist Belt (Inner Belt), Sill Seal/Rocker Seal, Sunroof Seal, Upper Auxiliary, Backlite, Roof Rail, Hood to Cowl , Front and Rear Quarter Window, Body Side Window, Drip Rail (Margin Seal), Tailgate or Trunk Seal are a few examples of the weather-stripping on vehicles.   These extrusions are either supported ( have metal core ) or unsupported (no metal).
The door and window seals are made by our customers in a continuous extrusion process.  Think Play-Doh machine on steroids.  These extrusion line speeds can run as much as 100 feet per minute.
The process starts with payout machines. Spools of carrier metal are put on these for feeding metal down the line.  They are either powered or free spooling.
Preformers (rollformers) form the shape of the carrier metal.  The Pullbase is the drive system that powers the Preformer cassette. TTE's Preformer can be changed out in 2 minutes which keeps the line running more hours per day.  Other companies roll formers take hours to change out a set of rolls so a different profile can be ran.
In the slideshow above is a photo that shows some of the various styles of carrier metal.  It can be solid metal, wire, lanced and stretched or stamped metal.
Next items in an extrusion line that TTE makes would be Extruder Heads, Nose Cones and Spiders.  These items are in the extruder itself.  The extruder is like a big Play-Doh machine where the preformed metal gets the rubber (EDPM) or plastic put around it.
The extrusion die and a piece of machinery that is bolted right on the exit end of the die for putting texture on the extrusion (Spectratrim) while it is still hot and soft is also show in the slideshow.
After this extrusion is cooled after coming from the extruder it sometimes needs a vent hole drilled in the sealing bulb.  We sell these specialized drill bits all over the world and make Drill Machines to perform this operation.
